My name is Bob and I left school in the summer of 1976, I was very unsure of what I wanted to do with my working life. My first job was actually an apprentice tool maker at Parker Pen in Newhaven.
I very quickly knew this wasn’t the job for me as I was constantly clock watching! Despite my maths were good they weren’t up to the level needed for the job. I stumbled into roofing around the age of 17-18. I started working for another roofer in the area and by the time I was 21 I formed a business in Seaford offering roofing services with a business partner.
After a few years we went our own separate ways and I started a business on my own and this when Robert Martin Roofing Services was born. Fast forward a little and I have been in the trade now for 38 years and I’ve loved every minute of it!
I’m slowly taking more a back seat due to my health, and a well-earned retirement is approaching. Back in 2003 my only son Luke came onboard and started working for me. But after many years earning his roofing stars Luke is now slowly taking over the business. I’m pleased to say that with Luke onboard work over the last few years have been the best they’ve ever been. So here’s to the future!
In 2021 Luke took over the company completely due to Roberts declining health and sadly, in April 2022, Robert passed away.
The Company is very much going from strength to strength and we are looking forward to many more roofing projects in the coming years.
